Setting up your Sound Device so that it can be shared by CompuHost and other applications.

Beginning with Windows Vista, a new audio API (WASAPI) was introduced that allows applications to take exclusive control over a device. Although CompuHost does NOT require or insist on exclusive control of any device (video, audio etc.), some other applications might, and thus inhibit CompuHost's access to the same device while the other is running.

To hopefully resolve the issue, you may wish to try blocking exclusive access to the device by following these simple steps...

  1. Open the System Control Panel and select "Sound->Manage audio devices", or type "Audio Device" in the Windows Search Bar and select "Manage Audio Devices" from the available search results.
  2. Select the "Playback" tab.
  3. Select the applicable Sound Device and RIGHT-CLICK.
  4. Select "Properties"
  5. Select the "Advanced" tab.
  6. Deactivate the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" option.
  7. Click "Apply" and close all open dialogs.

We hope this helps.
